Nothing like community spirit - so many things can happen, with an idea, energy, persistence and passionate people who put the work in; public radio, Eaglecrest, Folk Festival, Juneau Ski Club, Nordic club.

Thank you for this delightful update. I haven't been skiing in decades, but your story reminded me of my first day on the slopes. OY! What a day! Luckily, I didn't injury anybody else, but I got my first broken bone and a castful of signatures before the season was done.

Subscribers please note-the question about lift access refers to Chairlift Access. And it has been brought to my attention that the correct answer is actually 1976.

Great update and thanks for reminding everyone of the importance of volunteerism and community. That is what makes Juneau such a great place to live. I miss it. Loved the photo! One question about the trivia contest though. 1974 as the first date of lift access skiing on Douglas Island? Do the rope tows at 2nd and 3rd cabin count? They were much earlier.

Annie - No one would've touched us if you and sister Barb would've been able to join our Elegant Skinner team.

Hi Linda! Sounds like fun. Better recruit Barb. At least she is usually there.

Good question Ann. The first Eaglecrest ski seaon was 1975-76. Lift access refers to chairlift access.

The first rope tow was installed at First Meadow on Douglas in 1935 according to Juneau Ski Club history. The rope tows and 2nd and 3rd cabins were installed in the 1950's.
